🔸️ We must honour our Parents at any age! 🔸️
Luke 2:51 explains that 'the Lord Jesus was obedient to His parents Joseph and Mary for thirty years during His life with them.' Like him, all of us who lived in that age, know that it was not so easy to live with such obedience.
That is why we are now able to highlight the "example of Jesus" to our children. Ephesians 6:4 commands fathers to bring up their children "in the teaching of the Lord." Do you know what the "teaching of the Lord" this verse refers to? Yes, Jesus taught His children the "pattern of His own life" of the years He lived in Nazareth. Any boy or girl who "follows the example of our Lord"... will grow more and more in wisdom and grace, as happened to Jesus!! (Luke 2:52).
Even after we grow up and get married, we must continue to honour our aging parents. In Genesis 9: 21-27, Ham, one of Noah's sons, once saw his father drunk and lying naked in a tent. He told his brothers what he had seen and brought dishonour to his father. What Ham said was not a lie, it was true ... but he had made his father disrespect. God curses those who back-biting even if one speaks the truth. Whoever it may be, one who back-biting can never be a disciple of Jesus.
Nevertheless, Noah's next two sons did not see their father's nakedness, but came back with a garment over their shoulders, covered the nakedness, and honoured their aged father. Because of this, both of them and their families were blessed!
The lesson we need to learn from this incident is, "God blesses those who honour their parents! God curses those who neglect their parents."
Prayer:
Heavenly Father! Give us the grace to honour our parents from our childhood to old age, like Jesus! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
