🔸️ Must get redemption from the sin of lying! 🔸️
Psalm 58: 3 says, "... from the hour of their birth, they go out of their true way, saying false words." How can one lie while still in the mother's womb? We may ask, can anyone speak lie while in the womb? But the truth of this verse is to emphasis the truth that one can lie even without speaking! That is, a lie is stronger than a mere word. By a particular appearance or action, we can deceive and beguile others without saying a word! The hypocritical life without saying a word is an example of the power of lies.
In Acts chapter 5 Ananias and Sapphira didn't utter a word when they stood before Peter! However, Peter asked Ananias: "Why did Satan fill your heart to lie with the Holy Spirit?"
(verse 3). From this, we can know the fact that one can lie without saying any word. Let us know the truth that ‘we can all lie by pretending to be true by a particular appearance of something that is not true about us’.
In this incident, Ananias, who came to the congregation meeting, came and pretended that he had given all his money to the Lord, even though he had not given all he possessed. It is not a sin for this Ananias to take some money for himself. But as if everything had been given, what he pretended had turned into a deadly sinful lie and so he was judged. It was said that one who had been commanded by the standards of the Old Testament ought to speak the truth. But in the New Testament, the Lord Jesus said, "Do not swear."
Similarly, in James 5:12 we read, "Do not swear not by Heaven or by Earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned."
Prayer:
Our heavenly Father! Give us the grace to speak what is true and to say 'No' what is not true; help us to be free from lies! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
