🔸️ Everyday we must live depending on God! 🔸️
Lord Jesus taught us to pray, "Give us today our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). However, it is possible for God to provide all the food needed for many days at a stretch; But our petition should be for our day-to-day physical needs only. Jesus said that we should not worry about what will happen tomorrow. This good Lord wants us not to worry about the future. Nevertheless, we must live in dependence on our Lord daily. Thus God taught the people of Israel the lesson of living dependent on Him, in the most wonderful way in the wilderness.
In the wilderness they went out every morning to gather manna. They could not collect manna for many days at once! Yes, they had to depend on their Lord daily. Thus they lived for 40 years. Was such a life a difficult life? No, of course not! This kind of life gave them so much "ecstasy"!!
If God gives us more at the same time, our heart can drift away from Him. That is why God is commanding circumstances in our lives, so that our bodily needs "occur from time to time." The fleshly things are attracting us more than the spiritual things on this Earth! That is why, by allowing such needs in our lives, God makes us dependent on Him again and again!
Further, the Scripture clearly says that "If anyone does not want to work, he must not eat" (2 Thess. 3:10). 'Our heavenly Father feeds the birds of the air,' said Lord Jesus. But He doesn't put food directly into the mouths. These birds have to go out and seek their food. God expects us to work hard just like these... at the same time, He expects us to trust in Him. Yes, we should never consider faith as an alternative to hard work!
Prayer:
Our heavenly Father! Let our heart not be deviated from depending on You, for our daily needs. Please be gracious on us. In the name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
